Run The Runway

The third annual Run The Runway For The Janeway event will be held 10 am Saturday, September 9, 2017.

The Run The Runway For The Janeway offers participants a choice of a 2.5 km walk or 5 km run.  Registration is $25 for adult runners and $15 for student participants and walkers. All event proceeds will go directly to the Janeway Foundation.

We hope it will be a fun and novel event for many people whose only experience on the runway is aboard an aircraft. We are delighted to support the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation, whose work touches each and every one of us as the province’s only pediatric hospital and a leader in children’s health and welfare.

FAQ

Q: How do I register?

A: You can register online. Registration can also be emailed or faxed in advance, Please email sladet@giaa.nf.ca to request a race registration form. Registration forms will also be available at the airport information counter.  We strongly encourage everyone to pre-register to reduce wait times on the day. For those paying by cheque, please make it payable to the Janeway Foundation.

Q: What is the official measurement of the course?

A: The runners will complete a 5K marked course, while the walkers will complete a 2.5K course. The runway is mostly flat but does have a 3 degree grade.

– $15 for adult participants in the 2.5 km walk

– $15 for students (those enrolled in secondary or post secondary institutions) regardless of whether they walk or run

Q: Where does my registration money go?

A: Each and every penny raised will go directly to the Janeway Foundation so it may continue its amazing work. Read more about the Janeway Children’s Hospital.

Q: Where does the event start?

A: The muster point for the event will be determined as the event nears. Clear signage will be available at the airport.

Q: Is free parking available?

A: Yes, of course. We encourage people participating together to carpool to save parking space.

Q: How fast do I need to be to participate?

A: Huh? These aren’t the Olympic trials – it’s a fun run. If you can walk or run, you are welcome to participate so long as you are 12 and older.

Q: I have registered but now I can’t go! Can I get a refund or transfer my registration?

A: Sorry, refunds are not available. Keep in mind all proceeds go to the Janeway Foundation. You can transfer your registration to another person – we will switch the names on the registration sheet on the day.

Q: I have signed up for the 5K run, but have decided I would like to take part in the 2.5K walk instead.

A: As participants are walked out to the runway, you can simply join the walkers. Please note that the fees are different for 2.5K and 5K participants and we cannot refund the difference.

Q: Do you have race kits?

A: We are focused on making this a good fundraiser for the Janeway Foundation. As such, there are no race kits and no medals. We will have a limited number of promotional items available on a first-come, first serve basis.

Q: Will race times be available?

A: This will not be a chip timed event. However, we will make every effort to post times online after the event’s conclusion.

Q: Are there water stations on the course?

A: No. Please ensure you hydrate in advance. Refreshments will be available after the event.

Q: What happens if it rains on race day?

A: Rain is of no concern. Lightning is of greater concern. Any number of things can happen on race day and the most recent updates will be provided through our Facebook page and Twitter. Please note, in the event of an unexpected cancellation, we can’t refund the money raised – we will contribute to the Janeway Foundation as per the plan.

Q: When should we be at the site?

A: We suggest you arrive approximately 30-45 minutes before the event to find parking and get ready.

Q: Er … is this safe?

A: Every precaution has been taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable event. This includes the coordination of the active runway on that day. Given that this is an airside event, it is important that all participants be accounted for. As such, spectators will need to be in a confined area.
