FREE BOOKS FOR FLYERS

Gander Flybrary Launches

Passengers at Gander International Airport can now pick up books for their travels thanks to the Gander Public Library.

The YQX Flybrary is a partnership between Gander Public Library and the Gander International Airport Authority (GIAA).

Library staff have stocked a book trolley in the airport with a wide range of over 100 titles free to all passengers. The gently used and donated books are curated by library staff and will be updated when needed.

Passengers are welcome to keep the books, should they wish. If passengers want to return the book, they can drop it at the airport information counter upon return. The YQX Flybrary also welcomes those who want to leave a book.

“Few things excite me more than a new read and I know our patrons feel the same way. Whether you enjoy a thriller, mystery, romance or biography, you will be able to find a book on the YQX Flybrary to entertain you while you are traveling,” explained Courtney Crocker, Regional Librarian of Central Division with NLPL. “The staff at Gander Public Library are delighted to share the love of reading with the community.”

GIAA President and CEO Reg Wright said he was delighted the library was receptive to the concept.

“I am delighted the great team at our library partnered on this,” he said. “I never board an airplane without a book – if you are flying alone, it’s the best travel companion. Doesn’t need to be powered down during descent, portable and can help you while away time in transit or at destination.”
