YQX pleased with WestJet's enhanced summer service |
The Gander International Airport Authority (GIAA) is pleased with WestJet's plans to enhance service at YQX for the summer season.
On May 3, WestJet announced it would be doubling service between Gander and Halifax to six weekly flights beginning July 5 to accommodate summer travel patterns.
"This significantly adds to our summer capacity," said Gary Vey, GIAA's President and CEO. "It's excellent news for the airport, travelers, and the greater community as a whole. I am encouraging people to use the service, be good ambassadors, and enjoy the unique brand of fun, affordable service that has established WestJet as the country's low-fare leader and one of Canada's most respected companies."
WestJet will now depart Gander at 3:35 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in addition to its morning departures at 9:20 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
"We have been working aggressively to facilitate growth for all tenants at YQX. That growth can only be achieved with patronage and providing good loads and economic return for our carriers," Mr. Vey said. "When you buy a ticket through Gander International Airport, you are investing in sustained quality service."
With WestJet's direct service to Halifax and coast-to-coast coverage, combined with Air Canada Jazz's connections east to St. John's and beyond, travelers can enjoy a wide range of choices to accommodate any schedule, Mr. Vey said.
The Gander International Airport Authority is the not-for-profit organization created in 1996 to manage operations at Gander International Airport (CYQX). The airport plays a key role in the economic and community development of the Town of Gander and the Central Newfoundland Region.
