DATE TITLE
Jun. 25 / 04 Fly Gander campaign takes off

BACK TO PRESS RELEASES

The Gander International Airport Authority (GIAA) launched its Fly Gander campaign to promote services at YQX Friday with an official opening at the Brittany Inns in Lewisporte.

Fly Gander is being launched in key areas of the GIAA catchment, including Gander, Glovertown, Grand Falls-Windsor, Twillingate, Harbour Breton, New-Wes-Valley, and Bonavista over the summer and fall.

WestJet will double its service between Gander and Halifax with six weekly flights effective July 5. Same plane service travels on to Toronto and Calgary, with connections to 24 Canadian cities.

With WestJet's direct service to Halifax and coast-to-coast coverage, combined with Air Canada Jazz's connections to St. John's and beyond six times daily, travelers can enjoy a wide range of choices to accommodate any schedule, said GIAA President and CEO Gary Vey. YQX now has almost 84,000 outgoing seats per year.

"Fly Gander is really premised on our three major selling points: cost, convenience and courtesy," explains President and CEO Gary Vey. "Fly Gander is about getting the right flight, at the right price, to accommodate your travel needs. It's about coast-to-coast coverage, any day of the week. It's about the convenience of having your trip start and end in your own backyard."

The Fly Gander campaign gives special attention to customers from outside the community of Gander.

"We are a regional facility, and we depend very much on customers from across central Newfoundland and beyond," Mr. Vey said. "We need sustained presence in those communities to maintain our share of the domestic market."

GIAA Chairperson Terry Parsons is asking the traveling public to consider YQX when booking air travel.

"In the next calendar year, we have an aggressive agenda to grow passenger traffic at YQX by 25 per cent," he said. "This is our opportunity - as travelers, as an airport, as a community and as a region - to shore up a high standard of service."

The Gander International Airport Authority is the not-for-profit organization created in 1996 to manage operations at Gander International Airport (CYQX). The airport plays a key role in the economic and community development of the Town of Gander and the Central Newfoundland region.
