Passenger Numbers Grow at Gander |
(Oct. 20, 2008) Passenger movements at Gander International Airport (CYQX)
have grown nearly 40 per cent year to date.
Domestic travel out of Gander has been buoyant in 2008, says airport
authority President and CEO, Gary Vey.
“Despite a challenging economic climate globally, passenger growth at Gander
continues to impress,” Mr. Vey said. “Since Air Canada introduced twice
daily jet service to Halifax in July of 2007, the response from travelers
has been very strong. Sunwing Airlines also offered an extended seasonal
service with three weekly flights from Gander to Toronto and will fly to
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in 2009.”
Cementing CYQX as the passenger hub for Central Newfoundland has been a key
part of the airport’s business plan, Mr. Vey added.
“Passenger growth strengthens revenues. We are very grateful to our
customers who have chosen to Fly Gander,” he said.
The Gander International Airport Authority is the not-for-profit
organization created in 1996 to manage operations at Gander International
Airport (CYQX). The airport plays a key role in the economic and community
development of the Central Newfoundland region.
