Sunwing offers direct flights from Gander to Puerto Plata this winter

Leading vacation package company Sunwing has announced it will bring the sunny south a little closer to Gander this winter with direct flights to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic from March 23-May 11, 2007.

Stephen Hunter, Chief Operating Office of the Sunwing Travel Group, is excited to have the opportunity to continue the presence of Sunwing Vacations and Sunwing Airlines in Central Newfoundland. "Our first effort was on the Canada charters to and from Toronto and from that experience we were encouraged to plan a southern charter. Our research demonstrates that Newfoundlanders like the idea of all inclusive beach holidays so we have chosen Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic which offers tremendous value. We expect to be offering a choice of over 12 resort properties that the local travel agent can counsel their clients as to the best value for them. We look forward to the continued support from the traveling public in making this a success."

Bob Sime, Sunwing's General Manager-Atlantic Region, states: "In just over four hours, the vacationer can be in the warmth of the Dominican sunshine. Special training will be provided to the travel agents so travelers can choose the proper accommodations to suite their taste."

Gary Vey, President and CEO of the Gander International Airport Authority, is extremely pleased with the winter service and scheduling.

"A Friday evening departure is ideal, and allows sun travelers the convenience of departing from Gander and arriving in sun-soaked Puerto Plata without the inconvenience of lengthy drives to the airport or forced overnights en route," Mr. Vey said. "In the dead of winter, Newfoundlanders welcome an opportunity to defrost themselves, savor the endless beaches and bask in the rich Caribbean culture. Puerto Plata is the perfect place to retreat, recharge, and, most importantly, relax."

Sunwing, which has twice been cited as one of Canada's fastest-growing companies by Profit magazine, not only puts the vacations together, but operates its own airline. Each Sunwing flight includes a range of complimentary services that many other airlines charge for: inflight entertainment, a welcome glass of champagne, wine with dinner, and a choice of hot meals.
