DATE TITLE
Oct. 4 / 05 Airport announces third-quarter performance

BACK TO PRESS RELEASES

Gary Vey, President and CEO of the Gander International Airport Authority (GIAA), today announced details of the airport's third quarter performance for 2005, up to and including September 30.

International traffic - defined as passenger aircraft transiting Gander from international points - has increased 34% year to date over 2004. Transiting international passenger movements have increased.

Cargo aircraft movements have increased 11% year-to-date over 2004 and corporate jet movements are essentially the same as last year for the third quarter.

"Our international revenue has been buoyed by an increase in transatlantic traffic, and the success of our marketing efforts, particularly in Scandinavia and Europe," Mr. Vey said. "Our performance this year typifies business at Gander. Our international business is strong - we enjoy a 80% share of the technical stop market for cargo aircraft and 25% of the corporate market. However, our domestic market is underperforming, not because the market has softened, but because the current capacity is insufficient to stimulate the market."

Domestic passenger traffic is down 15% year-to-date over 2004, reflecting reduced seat capacity in the market, he said.

"The airport has to acquire further seat capacity to meet the demands of our traveling public," he said. "We pursue an active program of route development for air services. The airport continues to market itself to incumbent and prospective airlines, and we expect this to pay dividends."

The Gander International Airport Authority is the not-for-profit organization created in 1996 to manage operations at Gander International Airport (CYQX). The airport plays a key role in the economic and community development of the Town of Gander and the Central Newfoundland region.
