DATE TITLE
Apr. 05 / 05 Airport announces first-quarter performance

BACK TO PRESS RELEASES

Gary Vey, President and CEO of the Gander International Airport Authority, today announced details of the airport's first quarter performance for 2005, up to and including March 31.

Mr. Vey said international traffic was performing well and driving revenue growth, with a 38% increase in cargo movements, 53% in international movements and 9% in corporate movements year-to-date over 2004.

"We have been aggressive globally in shaking the proverbial marketing tree," Mr. Vey said, "and it has certainly borne fruit in the way of new business for YQX."

Domestic passenger traffic, buoyed by strong WestJet performance, increased 4% over 2004 levels for the quarter. However, the airport authority is forecasting a difficult year in terms of domestic performance, due to the removal of WestJet's service effective April 7 and the collapse of Jetsgo prior to establishing a new service at Gander.

"This is going to be a trying year for the airport unless we can acquire further capacity to meet the demands of our traveling public," he said.

Provincial Airlines announced in February it will establish daily service at Gander effective April 18, and Mr. Vey said the airport is "delighted to have a new choice for travelers seeking to fly within Newfoundland and Labrador and to Halifax."

The Gander International Airport Authority is the not-for-profit organization created in 1996 to manage operations at Gander International Airport (CYQX). The airport plays a key role in the economic and community development of the Town of Gander and the Central Newfoundland region.
