The best thing about my airport is it only takes about 10 minutes to get from your car to the departure gate.
My town is better known as Canada’s oldest incorporated City (1785).
Local delicacy Dulse – a dried seaweed snack that is collected off the rocks at low tide. It’s stinky and addictive at the same time!
Where to wet your whistle Britt’s Pub and Eatery – it’s an English style pub located in the heart of historic uptown Saint John. They offer a wide selection of our many fabulous New Brunswick craft brews, and if you don’t meet someone you already know, you are sure to make some new friends there.
Best day trip from my city is to the beautiful Fundy Trail Parkway. It’s the ultimate Bay of Fundy eco-experience, where you can witness not only the highest tides in the world, but also hike/bike/drive the many trails with spectacular vistas of soaring cliffs and expansive ocean views.
My favorite restaurant is Grannan’s Seafood on the waterfront boardwalk in summer. You can smell the salt air, hear local entertainment, and watch ships coming and going, all while dining on fresh local seafood.
Best place for a stroll historic uptown Saint John. You can walk through the charming streets of Uptown Saint John, and step into a vibrant past—with an intriguing modern edge. Here, hundreds of years of history are alive. You can feel it in the architecture and streetscapes that have survived through the centuries.
One peculiar thing about my city is an attraction called the Reversing Rapids. It’s a unique phenomenon that is created by the collision of the powerful ocean tides meeting the mighty Saint John River. As the ocean approaches high tide, the powerful force moves the water backward. At high tide, the water becomes slack and boats can navigate from the river to the ocean for a short time.
If you come, don’t miss taking in an event at the Imperial Theatre. It was built in 1912 in the Italian renaissance style, and original moldings and intricate plasterwork have been faithfully restored. With some of the best theatre acoustics in the world, the Imperial offers a full slate of events all year long.
My one general travel tip is to be prepared to have a good time when you come to Saint John. The people are relaxed, fun-loving and welcoming.
The biggest misconception about running an airport is that we can somehow predict the weather! I wish I had a crystal ball so I could tell the many callers if their plane will get in during a storm.
