MANUFACTURING SUCCESS
Manufacturing sectors have undergone significant changes in the last decade, driven by trade liberalization, global competition, market fragmentation, technological innovation and the demands of more sophisticated consumers.
This has led to the adoption of more "lean" and "agile" processes. Successful manufacturing firms understand the need to drive as much profit as possible through the facility in the least amount of time. Gander International Airport is a profitable home for manufacturing firms. This is where labour force skill and creativity, innovation, infrastructure and strategic global positioning align to accelerate growth and drive profit.
The advantages are obvious. The cheapest electricity rates in Atlantic Canada. The lowest manufacturing tax in the country. The lowest employee turnover rates and absenteeism in North America, with an average job tenure of over 100 months. Business cost index ratings in a KPMG study comparing Newfoundland with the rest of Canada, the United States, Austria, France, Germany, Holland and Japan are a testament to our cost competitiveness. Newfoundland is the most cost effective in terms of Initial Investment, as well as location sensitive costs including labour and benefits and electricity. We also proved the most cost effective location among the G7 countries for the manufacture of Metal Components, Precision Components, Food Processing, Plastic Products and Electronic Assembly.

Since 2000, the manufacturing industry has enjoyed progressive labour relations, with only one labour stoppage and 136 person days lost in a sector which includes almost 760 companies.
The right skill sets, the right people, the right infrastructure, driving your business, at the right price. Our combination of human, natural and technical resources has fueled business investment at Gander.
