Gander International Airport has an airport improvement fee (AIF) of $35 that is built into the price of your airline ticket. The Gander International Airport Authority implemented the AIF effective July 1, 2001.
Airports throughout Canada are challenged by substantial increases in operating and capital costs, including the escalating costs of new government regulations, insurance expenses, and fuel and utility bills.
Through the AIF, the airport has been able to reinvest money collected into facility improvements, including the rehabilitation of runways and associated taxiways, passenger parking, and terminal expansion.
